I would love to see something like that here in the Valley of the Sun, also known as the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Almost all of the places that we work or shop are located on arterial streets. Many of these arterial streets have three lanes in one direction and two in the other, with no bike lanes. The cities will not take the space for the third lane and make it two motor vehicle lanes and one bike lane in each direction, so that we can bicycle commute safely to work and shop. This means that on the current two lane side, traffic piles up behind the bicyclist with all motor vehicles forced into one lane. Most all of the motor vehicles going in one direction have to at some time go in the other. I see this as a no-brainer. Some motorists exclaim, “Get up on the sidewalk.” Since between 72 and 80 percent of all bicycle/motor vehicle accidents occur when the bicycle has been riding on the sidewalk, I find that idea ridiculous in the extreme. Tell us, to facilitate bicycle commu
