Be knowledgeable about cars, pickups, etc. and Know what you are doing. Have a mechanic check out the vehicle if you have a mechanic. Judge the person that is selling the vehicle - are they trustworthy and honest? There are good deals on the internet and newspaper ads And there are also Not so good deals too. As with anything bought second hand - Use Caution and Think Twice about it! The truth is out there! If you are selling a vehicle – only accept cash and make sure it is Not counterfeit! No checks of any kind! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

If a deal seems too good to be true, it most likely is.

If interested about my thoughts on this, you could go back and look at yesterday's archives on the subject. I believe it was posted around 10:00 a.m., CDT.

Since buying a vehicle usually involves a large amount of money you'd think people wouldn't fall for this. One thing that might help these victims would be to first imagine the seller handing them the title and a picture ID of themselves to verify the sale is legitimate then picture themselves actually handing the purchase amount in cash to the seller in person. If the victim doesn't get a good "feel" for the transaction then they should walk away. I think why people are victimized is because they only see the "good" deal and ignore all of the ways the transaction could go wrong.

Not sure I understand what the scam is. I mean, either the guy has a car you want to buy or he doesn't.

The headline is wrong. It should say either "Used car scams thrive on internet" or "Used car scam thrives on internet." You can't have it both ways. It doesn't work.

Not only cars. Rental property, travel, entertainment, etc. Buyers definitely need to be aware when it comes to purchases over the internet.

Throw the scammers in jail with long prison terms. Make an example of them to discourage other unethical / illegal characters from following.
