Check your car's visibility

Chicago Tribune -- Daylight savings time will soon end. The dreaded nighttime commute is nigh. Good vision is vital and the Car Care Council encourages all car owners to conduct a vehicle visibility safety check during National Headlight Safety Month in October before the time changes on November 1.

Here is a simple checklist of things you, or your mechanic, can do quickly and inexpensively:

-- Check your headlight brightness. Headlight bulbs dim over time. Park on a level surface facing five feet from a wall and check the light display. The circles of light should be bright or soft white, not yellow or dim, and the circles should be even.

Some folks are living in fast forward. We should do away with DST as it really doesn't help us anymore with the advancements in technology (e.g) LED, CFL, and energy saving appliances.

“Clouded lenses may be polished for much less than replacements that range from about $250 to over $1,000.”

Gone are the days of the simple sealed-beam headlight unit that could be bought from any service station or parts store for less than $10. (I do still have one vehicle that uses them.)

Aha, this article is about lights — visibility of the road from the car, not visibility of the car as the headline indicates. I figured it was going to say that white and bright yellow cars are safer than maroon, brown, or black ones.
