. LIES, LIES, LIES. Wind energy is one of the worst ideas ever. Without subsidies it isn't profitable! It is a terrible polluter (ever site is a hazmat site), kills bats and birds by the thousands per day, causes known health issues, ruins HDTV reception, and reduces property values.
A few wind farms in the desert miles from anyones homes, OK. But towers should not be allowed within 5 miles of any residence. If you don't believe this, watch the documentary on the Lowville, NY wind farm. People drive off the road and/or run into each other because of the shadows produce on the roads perpendicular to the turbine blades with the sun on the opposite side of the turbine away from the road.

It can be done, but it won't, at least not as our only source of energy. While wind power will indeed supply more and more of our energy demands, relying only on wind isn't very smart; instead there should be a healthy mix of wind and solar as the main contributors to our grid with hydro, geothermal and fossil fuels filling in the gaps.

Wind energy can definitely help contribute to our energy needs. Every BU helps.

Yes with lots of batteries or a huge grid to transfer power around to where it need when one's local wind turbines are down. Wind turbines are great for consumers when grid tied. their no battery requirement.

keywords are "technically" and "theoretically". yes I'm sure the math from an energy production standpoint shows that it is enough, but the coverage, cost, and efficiency of necessary equipment is not only ways away, it may just be downright unfeasible.

The sooner we start deploying wind power, the shorter we will suffer from high oil prices. A little pain right now vs. major pain later.

Or harvest all the hot air that spews from politicians - just capture it in Washington DC and Brussels and we're home free.

Political hot air has added more 'pollution' than 'power' to the environment.

Not going to happen. Best wind is not near the big cities. Need to build a lot of transmission lines. Yea?? Also, wind needs backup electric regulation to match quality we expect from power companies. There are cases where wind producers had to pay someone to take their power. Really.

Wind needs to keep blowing when we need it. Also environmentalists don't like how wind blades kill birds in many flyways

"Other experts note it would be too costly to put up all the necessary wind turbines and build a system that could transmit energy to all consumers."
In other words the centers of greed wouldn't make as much money as they do with fossil fuel energy generation. When is society going to get past the concept of money, capitalism is a dead-end.

solar seems like the best solution, if we can get battery technology to the point that we can store the energy during the day and use it in the evening. Otherwise I guess we can use solar during the day, and generate electricity using natural gas and hydro / wind in the evenings.

If it is not economical then it will not happen...
