USA Today -- U.S. oil output is surging so fast that the US could soon overtake Saudi Arabia as the world's biggest producer.

Driven by high prices & new drilling, U.S. production of crude and other liquid hydrocarbons is on track to rise 7% this year to an average of 10.9 million barrels per day. This will be the fourth straight year of crude increases and the biggest single-year gain since 1951.

The boom has surprised even the experts.

The Energy Department forecasts U.S. production of crude and other liquid hydrocarbons, which includes biofuels, will average 11.4 million barrels per day next year. Drilling is such a fickle environment. Just the HINT of price lowering suddenly makes the "cost" to drill prohibitive...

This is good news, but we use so much more oil then anyone else in the world it still leaves us a long way from producing enough oil to satisfy our own usage.

They raise prices when production is low. They raise prices when production is high. They raise prices when there is tension anywhere on the planet. They raise prices when there's peace all over the planet...OK so that one has never happened. It doesn't matter who's producing the oil and who's buying the oil...the prices just keep going up.

The drill, baby drill people should be happy about this, but oil still, will not be cheaper. US oil companies would sell to China if the price is right!

We 'could' already be there if it wasn't for the current administration. But, then. whee would it be refined at since the whole bo industry is not interested in spending some of their BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN PROFIT EACH QUARTER to build some high efficient lower cost refineries.

I am quite sure that the oil company's will be pumping 13 million barrels by 2013 but they will be selling a lot of it on the market so it won't do North America any good

United States could surplus Saudi oil output by 2020 and even if we surplus the middle east,we will still pay more for it at the pumps.
